Nopany Institute of Healthcare Studies is the first private physiotherapy college in Kolkata. The Bachelor of Physiotherapy (B.P.T) started in the year 2004 and is of 4 ½ years duration. Candidates are eligible for the degree of Bachelor in Physiotherapy when they have undergone the prescribed course of study for a period of 4 ½ years which includes six months compulsory internship.
Physiotherapy provides tremendous opportunities in health services as well as in academics. It offers scope for specialization in Orthopedics, Neurology, Sports, Gynecology etc. A candidate can pursue Master and a Doctoral degree for specialization in clinics or academics.
On successful completion of the course, one becomes a health care professional institutionally educated and clinically trained in the field of physiotherapy.
One can also independently practice the profession in a clinic or establish a clinic or seek employment in a hospital (Government or Private). You can pursue higher education at the master’s degree level or any other higher qualification in India or abroad or take up further research in the field of Physiotherapy.
Our aim is to ensure that students are given a wide range of experience in a variety of clinical settings and placements are allocated accordingly.
The Institute conducts all its practical training at AMRI Hospitals Ltd., Dr. B C Roy Post Graduate Institute of Paediatric Sciences, IPGMER and SSKM Hospital, CNMC, Belle Vue Clinic, Marwari Relief Society, Sikar Bhawan and B.M. Birla Heart Institute, Kolkata during the 4½ years course.
Students within the program will experience a range of exciting and challenging learning opportunities as Physiotherapists work with people of all ages and abilities.
A high proportion of teaching will take place in small groups, including practical workshops and tutorial activities. Additionally, extensive practical training will be conducted in the institution clinic, hospital, OPD and IPD in a variety of settings will be completed the majority in the third and fourth years.
There is a 6 month of internship for candidates who successfully passed the examination.
No one will be awarded the degree certificate without successfully completing 6 months of internship.
The compulsory rotatory internship period will cover clinical branches concerned with Physiotherapy such as Orthopaedics, Cardiopulmonary, Neurology including ICU, Leprosy, Paediatrics, General Medicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Intensive and Critical Care, Sports etc.
The candidate must pass H.S. (10+2) examination of the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education/ ISC/ CBSC or its equivalent from any recognized Board/ Council in regular class mode.
The candidate must secure at least 50% (40% for SC/ST/OBC-A & B, PwD candidates) marks in aggregate of Physics, Chemistry and Biology and with individual pass marks (in both theory and practical separately, wherever applicable) in each subject also with a pass mark in English.
The candidate must be medically fit to undergo the course.
Student who are interested to take admission for any academic sessions, the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination Board (WBJEEB) conducts a common entrance examination titled JENPAS-UG (formerly known as JENPAUH) for admission to Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) for the state of West Bengal.

A candidate is required to have a minimum 80% attendance of the total classes conducted in a year in all subjects prescribed for that year, separately in theory and practical classes to become eligible to appear for the University examination. Vacation and other holidays are decided by the WBUHS and are strictly followed.
Examinations comprise written, oral, and practical tests. Written assignments (research based) will be introduced from the 3rd year onwards.
The WBUHS is the sole authority to conduct the University Examination. After the completion of the course the WBUHS awards a Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy.

I came know about this college through my relatives. Coming from a different city and different state, a different culture, I was worried at the beginning. But the environment of the campus was warm and I felt as if I belonged here. My teachers are kind, helpful, and enriched with knowledge. Under their guidance, I grew every day. Practicals, camps were a great source in getting in touch with theory and I always participated in the camps.
